As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Pre-Construction Manager to join our Commercial Department. This is a key appointment within the business and an exciting opportunity for an ambitious commercial professional who wants to make a genuine impact within a growing company.

Working alongside the Commercial Director, you will play a pivotal role in leading our estimating function, overseeing the preparation of competitive tenders and producing high-quality bid submissions that help secure future work. The role offers genuine scope to shape our estimating processes and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing the estimating and bid process from initial enquiry through to tender submission, ensuring every proposal is commercially competitive, technically robust and professionally presented.

Working closely with our Commercial and Operations teams, you will develop winning tender strategies while helping to secure and deliver exciting projects throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimating function for a diverse range of sports construction, landscaping and civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions.
  • Review drawings, specifications and employer’s requirements.
  • Produce comprehensive bid documentation and written tender responses.
  • Write, coordinate and manage high-quality bid submissions, ensuring they are professionally presented and submitted on time.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Identify commercial risks, value engineering opportunities and tender strategies.
  • Attend site visits, pre-tender meetings and client interviews where required.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, designers and supply chain partners throughout the tender process.
  • Work closely with Contracts Managers to ensure the seamless handover of successful projects.
  • Maintain estimating databases, pricing information and market intelligence.
  • Support the continuous improvement of estimating and bid management processes.

About You

You will be an experienced estimator with a strong commercial mindset and a passion for delivering successful tenders.

You’ll be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven track record in estimating within construction, civil engineering, groundworks, landscaping or sports facilities.
  • Experience preparing successful tender submissions and bid documentation.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, persuasive and professional bid responses.
  • Strong commercial awareness and exceptional attention to detail.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and negotiation skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the confidence to work independently.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and estimating software.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

  • Sports pitch construction and sports ground development.
  • Civil engineering and infrastructure.
  • Groundworks and drainage.
  • Landscaping.
  • NEC and JCT forms of contract.
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
